Evie's Scarf by LaMorocha66 Evie's Scarf by LaMorocha66
I made this scarf for MT's 8 y.o. daughter (see MT's scarf), who is always drawing rainbows. Happy child. I wanted to have irregular clouds worked in the round but even after about twenty attempts I did could not get one to look right. In the end I settled on a simple shell pattern. At first I stressed about the clouds not looking cloudy enough, and I actually got my daughter, who's a member of DA ("why-in-the-heck"), to post a pic of the scarf and get opinions: you can see a closeup of the cloud here [link] . I've seen a commercially available scarf with clouds that are a basic large flower pattern in white, but I'm happy with mine.

Because kids will be kids, the scarf is worked in easy-to-wash acrylic in all seven colours of the rainbow (in order). It's just worked in HDC's, except for the clouds.

That's really cute! I love how you make all your kids scarves in acrylic--very good choice.

As for the clouds, I like them. If anything, maybe you could've done the shells by crocheting in the round (I forget what it's really called, but granny-square-like, but without the giant spaces), but that might've looked a bit more flowery.

Thanks! And yeah, I tried the shells in the round: too flowery. I wanted uneven cloud shapes, but it was just a nightmare. I'll experiment with uneven clouds some more when I'm not in a hurry to give the item away!

Maybe vary the size of the shell? 3 dcs to 5 or 6 dcs?
And/or the shape of the shell... I haven't tried them myself yet, but I've seen diagonal ones, a "saddle shell," etc.

Yep, tried that... I know there MUST be a way to do it, just haven't found it yet.

I've seen plenty of rainbow scarves, but the fluffy clouds at the bottom just make it perfect! Lucky kid!

Hey thanks! I've never been so uncertain of something I've crocheted in my life! The clouds are actually really puffy because there's two on each end. I sewed two together and sandwiched the rainbow between them.
