The Little Bear used to have a pair of flip flops that one of her friends said were "the wildest things I've ever seen". They had huge cushioned flowers in red polka dot satin, purple soles, and a whole bunch of weird and wonderful appliqueed motifs. The Little Bear wore them until they were ratty and stinky, and she's never quite forgiven me for making her throw them out. This was my attempt at making something equally wild. The effect I was after was something so campy that it wouldn't look out of place in the Priscilla, Queen of the Desert wardrobe.
Bought thongs (flip flops), crocheted over with purple cotton, and motifs made from assorted coloured cotton. The leaves were made by my mother, who passed away nine years ago. I found them in one of her UFOs that I found when I inherited her stash, and it feels right that they should go into an item for the Little Bear because they adored each other. Thanks, Ma!
Those are wild, indeed! Bright and cheerful, they're awesome! And I love that you could include something from your own Mom, as well. It makes these even more of a treasure!

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.

I have two more leaves left in a lighter green. I think I'm going to attach them to a barrette for my hair.
